- 9. 2. 2006, Hradec Králové, Praha -At the beginning of this week, young driver Jiří Skula, who had taken two titles of the Champion of the Czech Republic in 2005 (category up to 1400 cc of the 2005 International Racing Circuit Championship of the Czech Republic, and the NA 100 category of the 2005 Kart Championship of the Czech Republic) came back from the La Conca circuit in Muro Leccese, Italy, where the first race of the 2006 WSK series (www.wskarting.com) was held from 3 to 5 February 2006. So, this year the La Conca circuit saw the opening event of the new racing kart series, the 2006 WSK series, which will be contested by the best racing cart drivers from numerous countries. This series consists of four weekend racing events; three of them will be held in Italy, one in Belgium. Jiří Skula will be representing the KVS Racing team in this series. Skula had already acquainted himself with the setting of the first race of the new series, that is, with the La Conca circuit, in the previous season: in August, he had taken part in the European Championship races which had been held there. He managed to take advantage of his knowledge this year by attaining placings among the first ten drivers as early as in the first practice and qualifying sessions. He started the first final race from the excellent eighth position, and finished sixth. This was his starting position for the second final race, which was held on Sunday. But he did not manage so well any more; the race was held in the rain, and the young driver had to retire at the beginning when, after a collision, his cart went into the rotational skid. After he came back from Italy, the young driver said: 'I am glad that I have the opportunity of driving at circuits with more favourable climatic conditions. I am taking part in the ICA 100 category of the WSK racing series, with the Maranello kart, which is fitted with a Maxter engine. Each of the karts must have Bridgestone tyres. This year I will be participating in races held in particular in Italy: in addition to the WSK series, I will also contest the 2006 Open Masters and, before long, the prestigious Winter Cup (www.federkarting.it) with more than one hundred racing drivers from the whole of Europe who had entered for this series. This year, I want to gather the invaluable experience from European racing circuits. That is why we will not be taking part in any of the Czech domestic racing series. To the contrary, in the Czech Republic we will be concentrating on racing car circuit races; once again, I will be driving the Škoda Fabia car of Division D4 of the Championship of the Czech Republic, category up to 1400 cc.' |
