Last week, for the first time in his career, Jiří Skula junior took part in the traditional prestigious Winter Cup racing event, namely, in the event's eleventh year (more information can be obtained for example from www.southgardakarting.it). More than 300 drivers from the whole of Europe had entered for the race contested in three categories (ICA/junior, ICA and Formula A). Skula was involved in the ICA category. In the timed practice session, he was eighteenth among the 32 drivers of his group.
In the first of the scored sessions, Jiří Skula got caught up in a multiple crash, which occurred soon after the start. However, owing to his fifteenth place that he had attained in the second of the scored sessions, he moved on to the compensatory session and, after coming seventeenth, he was through to the semifinals. In the semifinal session, despite the heavy rain, puddles on the track and poor visibility, Jirka gradually fought his way from the 34th position on the grid up to the ninth position. Unfortunately, two laps before the finish of the semi-final session, a collision occurred, without his fault, and he had to retire from the hard race contested by strong drivers. We should point out that even the eleventh place would have been enough for the finals.
