- 8. 10. 2006, Brno -
Last weekend, for the first time, the Automotodrom circuit in Brno saw the World Cup of Motorsport - the A1 Grand Prix. Within the framework of this competition, two accompanying events were held: the Škoda - Česká pojišťovna Challenge and the Division D4 races. Moreover, the penultimate round of the BMW 1 Challenge series also took place in Brno this weekend. Naturally, the varied field of drivers included the O2 Prima Team's representatives, that is, Michal Matějovský, Adam Lacko and Miroslav Forman. They were joined by Roman Seidl, who, this time, played not only the role of the team's technical manager, but also the role of a team racing driver. Each of the team's drivers was doing well. However, it was Michal Matějovský who represented the team in the best way. From Friday to Sunday, he was standing out among the Octavia competition front runners, taking not only the well deserved prestigious cups for two victories, but also the valuable prizes.
Within the Škoda - Česká pojišťovna Challenge, which is a presentation-type race of Octavia cars, one free practice session and one timed practice session were held on Friday. In the free practice, Jiří Janák came first. In the timed practice, the fastest time of 2:24.952 was clocked by Michal Matějovský, who took the pole position. The Saturday race began at 10.15, in the beautiful, sunny weather. Jan Dostál made a perfect start, but Michal Matějovský closed the gap and overtook him within the first two laps. Then, in the course of the subsequent ten laps, he extended his lead sufficiently and won the race in a perfectly competent manner. Jan Dostál came second, and Václav Brejla was third. The course of the Sunday race was very similar, but time differences between the front runners were smaller. Again, the victory was taken by Michal Matějovský, with Jan Dostál in second and Václav Brejla in third. 'I am very happy, this is a kind of satisfaction for me after the unlucky finals of the official Octavia Cup, when I missed the title because of the misfortune. I would like to express my thanks to the team and to all those who helped me,' said Michal Matějovský, the satisfied winner of the Škoda - Česká pojišťovna Challenge, when he, at the official ceremony at the Automotodrom circuit in Brno, received the first prize, the LINHAI off-road four-wheeler, that he earned by winning each of the two races.
In the presentation-type race of Division 4, Adam Lacko took podium two times with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, with which he usually participates in the 2006 Porsche Carrera Cup series. In the Saturday race, he claimed a fine third place, just behind the AMG - Mercedes cars of drivers Václav Nimč and Tomáš Kostka respectively. In the Sunday race, he even took the excellent second place.
The A1 GP Grand Prix program in Brno also included the last scored round of the BMW 1 Challenge series. Actually, the drivers will meet once more in the course of a six-hour race at the 'Epilog' event in Brno in two weeks' time, but the results of that contest will not be included in the overall standings. In each of the two races of this weekend event, drivers had to cover ten laps. Erik Janiš won the first race, while Miroslav Horňák took the first place in the second one. The O2 Prima Team's representatives definitely did not fall behind in the field of fourteen drivers. In the first race, Forman and Seidl came tenth and eleventh respectively. In the Sunday race, they even improved and kind of reversed their respective placings: Seidl finished in eighth place, Forman was ninth.
