Sunday's race at Brands Hatch with two heavy accidents

Michal's team decided for a different strategy for the Sunday race. After the crash that occurred on Saturday, a lot of work was carried out on the car and many components were replaced, in particular, at the chassis. For the team, the race was an opportunity to test the car, because they came to realize that a serious trouble was hidden somewhere in the car. The mechanics were ready for possible pit stops in order to change the car's set-up. The fact is that the car, after this race, will be brought back to the Sunred team's facilities at Martorell, Spain, where a complete overhaul will be carried out and the car's engine and gear box will be replaced, but the racing event at the Brno Circuit is coming near and, most probably, no testing will be possible within the time left.

In the end, this testing at the Brands Hatch Circuit came to an abrupt end, as the situation changed dramatically. Michal did make a good start and moved up, trying the capture the maximum possible amount of data, but his efforts were dashed by a serious accident involving his team mate A. Duducalo, when the Safety Car was brought out. After several laps behind the Safety Car, the race was started again. Not for long. A moment later, Carvalho's car went off the track and, after several somersaults, landed behind the crash barrier. The red flag was put up, and the race was over. The first place was taken by Pepe Orilola, of Spain. Michal came 16th. 'This really was a strange race. I have never experienced anything like this. However, the most important fact is that the two drivers and the track marshal, who was near the spot where Carvalho's car hit the ground, are all right, as far as I know,' Michal Matějovský said after the Sunday race, in which the drivers only covered six laps, mostly behind the Safety Car.
