Fulín Champion of Europe, Fifth Place Going to Matějovský

Petr Fulín entirely dominated both races of the FIA ETCC round in Brno, and is the first Czech racing driver ever to clinch the circuit European title. To the Champion of Europe win, the Czech racing drivers also added the victory in the Nations' Cup. Petr Fulín captured lights-to-flag victory in the first race, second place went to Maťo Homola, Dušan Borković finished third. The ranking in Race2 remained unchanged, but Fulín started from eighth position. It was not until the third lap after a tight battle with Maťo Homola when he got into the lead to keep it until the chequered flag wave. "Seeing it from inside of car it wasn't that easy as it looked at the first sight. The races were not easy ones, that's why I feel more delighted with today's success," said Petr Fulín after Race2 at the press conference.

At the beginning of the racing weekend, Fulín's team-mate Michal Matějovský was thinking about winning bronze in overall standings. The win in Qualifying on Saturday had indicated that all was in a fair way, nevertheless it would get changed in the fourth lap in Race1 as Michal Matějovský in his BMW 320si went off the track, the outgrowth of which was the end of that race, but also start from the last row in another racing session. Michal gave a hot pursuit full of overtaking manoeuvres, however finished no better but ninth.

Another driver of Josef Křenek's team, Jaromír Štádler, made his farewell to the racing career taking ninth and tenth places in the Single Make Trophy category.

The final standings in the FIA ETCC read the victory for Petr Fulín and fifth place for Michal Matějovský. The Nations' Cup category was won by the Czech Republic with 77 points, followed by Slovakia (56pt.) and Russia (52pt.)

Petr Fulín: "This day is the best one in my racing career. We've had really a perfect weekend. All team did a brilliant job crowned by a perfect-prepared car. It's great to win the title on the domestic track, in front of our sponsors and fans. It's a fantastic feeling."

Michal Matějovský: "It was a pity about that bad luck in Race1. I could go feeling less tense in another one, therefore I did enjoy it. My regret is that failed third place; in spite of that, I reckon, I may feel content with the fifth place in overall."

Josef Křenek: "I'm still soaking up today's results, and it'll go on, I guess. We have a perfect season behind, in which we had the best drivers, the best cars and the best mechanics. I thank all team for their perfect job they did in the whole season."

The FIA ETCC 2013 final standings: 1st Petr Fulín 88pt., 2nd Maťo Homola 74pt., 3rd Dušan Borković 48pt., 4th Peter Rikli 40pt., 5th Michal Matějovský 35pt.
