Day Two of Rotax Grand Finals 2013 Qualifying Sessions Bringing About Advancement For One Czech

- 15. 11. 2013, New Orleans, USA -

The final series of the Qualifying sessions did not come out well for any of the Czech pilots, but Petr Běžel qualified for the Saturday's final part, and will start the Pre-Final from Row 8. Another Czech driver, Jiří Forman, had to battle for the qualifying in the Second Chance Heat, however, despite rosy position on the grid he failed; therefore he had to say his farewell to the Grand Finals, so did our representative, Tomáš Salva, in the Junior Max category. The Friday morning welcomed drivers with rain and wet track. These conditions remained unchanged until the Second Chance Heats in the afternoon. Honestly, the wet track brought the Czech drivers no luck. In the Senior Max category were both our representatives, Jiří Forman and Petr Běžel. Starting from the front position Petr went off the track just after the start, so did Jiří driving at the back, but would manage to get back to the track. Finally, it was no better but 22nd place that went to Jiří Forman, Petr Běžel got 28th place. This resulted in the Second Chance Heat for Jiří Forman, but not any nice shift on the start grid in the Saturday's Pre-Final for Petr.

Jiří Forman in the Senior Max category started the Second Chance Heat from the 13th position, which gave him a very real chance that he might finish sixth at worst, and advance to the Final. Jiří started well, slipped inside to the eighth position, but made a careless mistake while entering another turn, as he impatiently tried to attack from outside. He appeared on the wet portion of the track ..., so killed off all hopes. He, however, got back to the race, driving at times that were not that bad; one more reason for all of the team to be disappointed about Jiří not to qualify for the final.

"As early as in the middle of this season I'd decided to finish racing, so I wanted to drive well in the Second Chance Heat to crown it by the Qualifying, also because I was going to say goodbye to my karting career with good results. But what happens in reality often differs from what a man wants. It's a pity, but I'm not making my farewell feeling sad; I've experienced plenty of good races in karting, when I was a success, so I'll always cast my mind back on them with joy. I've met loads of perfect people, and I thank my parents, especially, for their great support, the firm MS Kart as thanks to them I've got to the world of great racing, special thanks go to Jirka Kahuda for four years of his patience and determination to do all his best for results, and also to sponsors as without them I would have never been able to race at this level. Tomorrow I'll cross my fingers for Petr to be among podiums as he is here in the condition to make that!" Jiří Forman says after the sessions on Friday.
