Fat Boy Brings Kolomý Together with Dakar Stars Right below Podium

- 7. 1. 2014, San Rafael/San Juan, Argentina -

The Tatra Buggyra Racing team has recorded another great improvement in the Dakar race. The third stage of the rally was completed by the crew of Martin Kolomý right below the podium ranks. Thanks to the fourth rank the crew also moved upwards to the 11th interim rank in the overall classification.

The third stage of the race from San Rafael to San Juan was planned to include a three hundred kilometre transfer and a three hundred kilometre measured section. However, the organizers shortened the route twice. The finish was eventually at 222nd kilometre already. "The weather was very hot but still there was a shower. The organizers were afraid of the forecast strong storms and so they opted for the route shortening to avoid possible complications," explained the reason for the change the navigator David Kilián.

Again, the Tatra Buggyra Racing team bettered in the Dakar. Martin Kolomý's crew finished Stage 3 close to the podium finish. Moreover they jumped to the 11th place of the total classification thanks to the fourth position. Three-hundred-km special stage had been expected after three-hundred-km transport stage in Stage 3 from San Rafael to San Juan had been, however, the organisers shortened the route right twice to finally set the Finish on the 222nd kilometre. "It was scorching yet it rained. The organisers feared heavy storms that had been forecast, so they preferred shortening the stage to prevent complications," explained the reason for that change a navigator, René Kilián.

Despite the change in the track length, trucks climbed to a height of 3,000m above sea level, and had to tackle a narrow and hard rocky road that would bring about a lot of defects. Perhaps everyone had to stop. "We also suffered some problems. We lost a few minutes due to repairing tyres. Luckily, we avoided more serious technical defects, which is a sort of miracle, as the track was rough," said the pilot Martin Kolomý.
