Pergusa Is To Be Crucial – Events on Sunday, September 28, Live on TV Eurosport!

- 24. 9. 2014, Hradec Králové, CZE -

A long way through defending the championship titles won last year in the FIA ETCC and The Nations’ Cup ends for the Krenek Motorsport team on a Sicilian racing circuit called Autodromo di Pergusa as early as at the weekend. The Sunday will see the team’s mission either be a success or end in failure.

It is only 12 points that the reigning champion, Petr Fulín, has to earn to retain his championship. He has accumulated 82 points so far so overhauling his teammate, Michal Matìjovský by 34 points. Losing another 10 points to him at the moment is a Swiss driver, Peter Rikli. If it were like usual, the championship winner would be already fairly certain, however, this series promoter has decided for awarding double points in the final round, therefore any racing driver might influence the final standings or win one of the podium finishes.

Unlike the previous racing weekends, the programme is scheduled to take place just on Saturday and Sunday, and those important and crucial moments, the Sunday’s races, are broadcast live on the TV EUROSPORT channel (Race 1 from 12.15 a.m. to 12.45 a.m., Race 2 from 2.00 p.m. to 2.30).

Michal Matìjovský, who is leaving for Sicily in the middle of the week, is feeling perfectly prepared: “I made get married during a summer break and enter a new stage in my life. I’d taken part in a test of functionality on the Autodrom in Most before leaving for Pergusa. It was also about taking a ride after the long summer break, but mostly about testing a new engine. Awarding double points in Pergusa narrows our lead, nevertheless I believe we’re properly prepared, and we’ll make it.”

Petr Fulín: “Pergusa has always been a bit of tricky business. It’ll be a strong challenge, but I’m gonna fight for win, and would like to enjoy the weekend at a time.”

Josef Køenek: “What we are taking with us to Pergusa is the aim to defend the ETCC championship, and we’re aware of what will await us there. We’ve had enough time for preparation, leaving nothing to chance. It won’t be easy though, but we’ve got excellent pilots and a well-coordinated team. If a bit of luck is on our side, it’s nothing of a mission impossible.”
