OiLibya Rally of Morocco Is To Start In One Day

- 3. 10. 2014, Erfoud, Morocco -

The Friday of 3 October 2014 was the last busy day before the start of the OiLibya of Morocco 2014 initial stage in Erfourd, lying south-east of Morocco. Whereas some of the crews had been arriving at the venue at the last moment, others had been undergoing rather complicated checks and scrutineering since the morning.

"Both of our vehicles, which are going to take part in the Rally, the racing ´Dakar´ Tatra as well as an accompanying journalist car, were equipped with a special navigating and safety system to be link to crews and the competition organisers so they could take actions if needed in a flash. What’s more, this equipment makes a certain communication between single crews possible, which is useful for safe overtaking in terrain, often rugged and blind. Out technical equipment has been geared to the race, and we’re looking forward to the morning when we’re leaving," gave information Václav Svoboda, the Tatra pilot after the checks and scrutineering.

Stage 1, Erfoud-Damia, is 276 km in length. Drivers and accompanying vehicles have to make a 27-km transfer to the start, and another 17-km one after a timed section leading back to Erfourd.

The team had a bit of time to stock up provisions in local shops. The weather on Friday was sunny, temperature ranging around 33 °C. Surprisingly, there had been a heavy rain shower coming from the close mountains in the evening, but finished in a while. It is getting dry everywhere now and the desert is expected to be dry and dusty on Saturday morning again...
