Matějovský Takes Second Place in Q on Saturday

- 24. 5. 2014, Salzburgring, Austria -

The FIA ETCC drivers started the programme on Saturday at Salzburgring with free practice sessions in the morning to put their skills and cars to the last test before the afternoon's qualifying. The standings after the session read the Křenek Motorsport team's racing drivers' times of 1:30.562 (Petr Fulín) and 1:30.625 (Michal Matějovský) taking so the second and third place at the moment, behind a Serbian driver Milovan Vesnić. The Qualifying Session was a breathtaking one. The leading positions kept changing, and the drivers were improving their times despite the fact that their fights for qualifying were red-flagged twice.

Finally, it was Petr Fulín, one of the Křenek Motorsport team's drivers, who took the Pole Position after a strong fight against Michal Matějovský whom he beat by a narrow margin of 0.02s!, so won setting the time of 1:29.514. The third out of the three best was Christian Fischer, the Engstler Motorsport's racing driver, with the fastest lap time of 1:29:754.

Petr Fulín: "Qualifying was a difficult one since the track was busy and cars' performance in single categories differed. The gap between me and Michal is narrow, so it's hard to say what was the decisive moment to help win the Q. It's gonna be very narrow tomorrow, and I do hope we'll get on well."

Michal Matějovský: " I started the Q feeling satisfied from the very first stint. The car was going perfectly, so it's a bit of pity about few hundredths that I couldn't make. My personal thanks go to boys from the team who have done a good job. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, races are sure to be nice."

Josef Křenek: "It was hard to go one lap without overtaking due to the track was really busy. Both drivers performed well, and showed they're among the best in the field. According to the weather forecast there is no wet to come which allows us to look forward to the first dry race this year."

The FIA ETCC programme on Sunday starts at 9:00 a.m. with a 15-minute warm-up; two races are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
