Another racing event of the DMV Tourenwagen Challenge series
Last weekend, the VEKRA-ČSMS Racing Team's drivers Tadeáš Martínek, Laura Hájková, Petr Fulín and Šimon Kubišta contested the first domestic racing event, which took place at the Most racing circuit. For Tadeáš Martínek and Laura Hájková, each of them with an Octavia Cup car, this was the last opportunity to get some practice before the forthcoming opening race of the Octavia Cup, which is held at the Most circuit next week. On the other hand, Petr Fulín, with a well-tried Alfa Romeo 147 GTA, and Šimon Kubišta, with an Alfa Romeo 156 S 2000 car of the WTCC racing specification, will be contesting the entire DMV Tourenwagen Challenge series.
The first qualifying session saw Šimon Kubišta take the pole position in his category. Petr Fulín came second, and Laura and Tadeáš kept the fine lap times from the practice session. The second qualifying session was very promising until the moment when Šimon, in turn 12, caught up with Štadler, with a Fabia. That is, Štadler, at that moment, hit Šimon's Alfa Romeo and Šimon went off the track, into the grass. It was with great presence of mind that our driver managed to prevent a serious accident. The only consequence was the damaged front spoiler of his car.
The first race witnessed the fierce battle fought by Šimon and Petr. Unfortunately, Šimon, in the heat of the moment, just after he had successfully overtaken Petr at the end of the home straight, failed to notice the yellow flags which had been put out. So, the magnificent battle, which had been fought throughout the whole race, ran to waste. So, it was Petr Fulín that won the race in this category in the end. Laura Hájková, who was doing very well in the race, came third, ahead of Tadeáš Martínek, who was fourth.
Both Šimon and Petr were looking forward to the second race. Šimon wanted to make up for the bad luck, while Petr resolved to defend his placing from the first race. Unfortunately, Petr had to get over the trouble with his Alfa 147 GTA which resulted in him starting from the pits. Šimon was keen to achieve a good result in the race. However, he was well aware of the fact that the tyres of his car were in a rather bad condition after the first session, which became evident in the course of the race. So, after a heroic struggle, he claimed the third place in his category. Petr, against all odds, was determined to pursue his goal and swiftly moved ahead, overcoming other drivers in quick succession. We were watching his fantastic performance with excitement. According to our records, he passed 16 cars. But then, in the middle of the race, bad luck set in. The technical troubles emerged again and the engine of his Alfa Romeo broke down. Nevertheless, Laura and Tadeáš claimed the excellent fourth and fifth places respectively, contributing to the fine atmosphere of the day.
'This racing event has turned out very well,' said Petr Fulín after the successful weekend, and added: 'We have taken a podium spot in each of the two races, and I think that we are very well prepared for the Octavia Cup and for the other races of the forthcoming season.'
We would like to invite you to the subsequent weekend racing event, which is drawing near: next week, you will be able to see our team at full strength at the contests of the opening racing event of the Octavia Cup series.
