Jiří Forman successfully continued his participation in the British 'SUPER 1' series at the P.F. International circuit
Last weekend, the P.F. International circuit near Brandon saw the second round of the prestigious British SUPER 1 Championship. The only Czech driver to attend this racing event was Jiří Forman, who, with a kart of a Czech company MS Kart, met with great success again, just as at the series' first race.
'Friday's free practice session turned out very well for me. I was among the top ten drivers all the time. However, in the timed practice on Saturday, I only finished 33rd, on account of a faulty tyre, whose circumference, in hot condition, was by more than 2 cm longer than the circumference of any other tyre,' Jiří Forman commented on the course of the timed practice. The team lodged a protest, which was admitted. And, Jiří Forman added: 'The troubles with the defective tyres stimulated me before the races on Sunday. I wanted to prove that I can do much better with the MS Kart machine.'
In the first race, Jirka moved up from the seventeenth spot of the starting grid to the eleventh place at the finish. In the second race, he came 14th. These two results put him directly into the finals, to the 20th spot of the grid. 'Before the first final session, however, there was a trouble with the time schedule. That is, the time schedule had been changed and we did not know it. Consequently, we were late and Jirka had to start from the last, 36th spot of the grid,' complained Josef Bodurek, Jirka's trainer and mechanic. Despite that, Jirka did not give up and fought his way through the field in a fantastic way to finish in 16th place in the first final race!!!
This was Jirka's position on the starting grid of the second final race. He moved up once again and, after a fierce battle with M. Taylor, of England, claimed an excellent 11th place. A great achievement is the fact that, apart from Taylor, Jirka surpassed numerous British drivers contesting the WSK series (Taylor even had claimed a victory in one of the WSK series' races).
This fine result earned Jirka the 12th place of the current standings of the SUPER 1 Championship. This is the best placing ever attained in this series by a driver from abroad. Moreover, Jirka has nearly caught up with the top ten drivers. And, by his fine achievement in the UK, Jirka won recognition not only for himself, but also for the mechanics Josef Bodurek and Pavel Tuček. He also proved the high quality of the MS Kart company's machine.
