This year, the "K plus K motorsport" team (www.kpluskmotorsport.cz) is to become the Czech Republic's first team to contest the FIA GT1 series. The 'K plus K motorsport' team's new project for the upcoming 2009 season was presented at a press conference held on Thursday, 12 February, in the Hilton Hotel, Prague. The team appointed Michal Matėjovský as a test driver.

Although his main objective for this season is a good result in the Seat León EuroCup series under the colours of the SUNRED-BRT team, Michal Matėjovský took advantage of this opportunity. He told the press conference: 'I am glad that I have been offered an opportunity to test with the SALEEN S7R car within this project. I am looking forward to the cooperation with the team and I hope that I will be able to gather valuable experience. I would like to thank the "K plus K motorsport" team for this offer. I am also pleased to see the successful development in the cooperation between the BRT and "K plus K motorsport" teams.'

The "K plus K motorsport" team has entered two SALEEN S7R cars for the series. The first one will have two experienced drivers at the wheel, i.e., Karl Wendlinger, the 1999 FIA GT Champion, and Ryan Sharp. One of the two drivers of the second car is Adam Lacko. As far as the second driver of this crew is concerned, negotiations are being conducted, and the name of Adam Lacko's partner will be known within two weeks. The entire team comprises 18 persons, including a physiotherapist. The team's technical director is Othmar Welti, who worked for the Sauber F1 team and has a lot of experience with GT1 cars as well.

Karl Wendlinger, too, has had Formula 1 experience, as he had completed five seasons at the wheel of an F1 car. His debut was the Japanese Grand Prix, at the Suzuka circuit, and his best placings came in 1993, when he, with the Sauber team, claimed the seventh place of the overall standings and came fourth at the Italian Grand Prix, at the Monza Circuit.

The K plus K team is not going to be a complete newcomer to the FIA GT Championship, as it claimed an excellent second place in the FIA GT2 race at the Masaryk Circuit in Brno last September, with Jiøí Janák, Junior, and Tim Bergmeister at the wheel of a Porsche 997 RSR.
